Hot Water Cylinders

We supply, install and maintain new and existing hot water cylinders for any heating system.

At Speck Plumbing, we have over 25 years’ experience with different hot water cylinders – from ones connected to system boilers and additional cylinders attached to your combi-boiler.

There are three main types of hot water cylinders available in the UK market, fueled by gas, oil, or electric. Here is a brief overview of each type:

  1. Vented hot water cylinders: These cylinders are connected to a cold water tank, which is usually located in the loft. The water is heated by a boiler, and the hot water rises to the top of the cylinder, where it is stored until needed. Vented cylinders are typically used in older homes that have low water pressure.
  2. Unvented hot water cylinders: These cylinders are connected directly to the mains water supply, which means they can provide high water pressure. They are also more energy-efficient than vented cylinders, as they do not require a separate cold water tank. Unvented cylinders are typically used in newer homes that have high water pressure.
  3. Combination boilers: These boilers do not require a separate hot water cylinder, as they heat water on demand. They are typically fueled by gas or oil, and are a popular choice for smaller homes or apartments. Combination boilers are also more energy-efficient than traditional boilers, as they do not store hot water. However, for large households, you may benefit from a water tank – helping to reduce the load of your combi-boiler or provide a higher frequency of on-demand hot water.

What about cylinders for an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP)?

When it comes to choosing a hot water cylinder for your air source heat pump, there are a few things to consider. You can learn more about these on our ASHP page.
